Marbella Chosen as the Best European Destination for 2024
| REAL ESTATE ARTICLESMarbella has been chosen as the best European destination to visit in 2024 by the renowned travel website European Best Destinations, receiving the highest number of votes in the award’s fifteen-year history, with more than one million participants from 172 countries. The city topped the podium, followed by Monaco in second place and Malta in third, from a selection of twenty European destinations that also included Geneva, Batumi, Madeira, Florence, and London. Marbella received a record total of 149,192 votes, becoming the first Spanish city to achieve this recognition after finishing in second place two years ago. The organization highlighted that 84 per cent of travellers who voted for Marbella as the best European destination came from outside Spain.
In the official award announcement, Maximilien Lejeune, CEO of European Best Destinations, told Mayor Ángeles Muñoz: “This title rewards the work of your entire team in making your destination one of the strongest tourism brands in Europe; a destination with a unique cultural, event, sensory, and gastronomic offer; a place where experiences can be enjoyed like nowhere else.” He emphasized that Marbella “leads in tourism excellence in Europe” and praised the city’s efforts in brand creation, seasonality management, and market diversification.
Lejeune also highlighted Marbella’s ability “to satisfy all travellers, from ages 3 to 103, from sports and shopping enthusiasts to gourmets.” “It is a great honour to reward, for the fifteenth year, the people who get up every morning to make their destination the best in Europe,” he added. The organization noted that Marbella is the top destination voted by American and British travellers for a stay in Europe in 2024, describing it as a “sunny, five-star destination, natural, sporting, and gastronomic with everything to please the most demanding travellers.”
In the 2024 edition, European Best Destinations reported a total of 1,096,938 votes, with 59 per cent coming from outside Europe, setting another record since the event’s inception. This reflects the high interest of foreign travellers in visiting Europe this year. The awarded destinations are promoted not only on the organization’s travel website but also through associated media such as Forbes USA, Condé Nast, Corriere Viaggi, and Yahoo, reaching an estimated audience of approximately 420 million travellers.
