Marbella’s Golden Mile

Beginnings and extension

Marbella’s Golden Mile is the section that comprises the approximate four kilometres that separate the urban centre of Marbella from Puerto Banús. The most symbolic hotels in the area and some of the most emblematic residences are located in this strip.

The Golden Mile was the place chosen by Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg to build the exclusive Marbella Club Hotel, which began to attract a very select international clientele since it was inaugurated in the 1950s. This fact transformed a traditional fishing village into one of the most glamorous tourist destinations in the world, a condition that continues to be maintained.

In the 70s, due to the boom in the area, the Puente Romano Hotel was built, which was later acquired by Mouaffak Al Midani. Mouaffak was a regular customer at the Marbella Club and a member of the Marbella jet set. The name of the hotel comes from the 1st-century Roman bridge that we find inside its facilities. This same one was part of the Via Augusta that linked Rome with Cádiz at that time. The complex is well known for its Puente Romano Tennis Club, where the Andalucia Tennis Experience tournament is held. Here Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and many other important personalities of this discipline have left their mark.

Offering the best of Marbella and with an average of 325 days of sunshine per year, many people were encouraged to make La Milla de Oro their place of residence. This fact filled the district with fantastic villas, mansions, modern apartments and opulent townhouses.

Areas in Marbella Golden Mile

From the beachfront to the slopes of La Concha, the N-340 highway divides the Golden Mile into two areas. Both of them are quiet and exclusive zones that offer privacy and quality leisure. Most of its homes have privileged views of the mountains, the sea, Gibraltar and the coast of Africa. This is due to its elevated position or its proximity to the waters of the Mediterranean in each case.

Mountain

On the side of the mountain, urbanizations such as Sierra Blanca, Cascada de Camojan, Las Lomas de Marbella Club, Altos de Puente Romano or Rocio de Nagüeles stand out.

Sierra Blanca is located about 300 meters above sea level. It mainly houses impressive villas nestled in large plots. However, we also find new constructions among which is the project Villa Istan II, with a contemporary style and interior spaces that connect with nature. All of them with magnificent views of the sea and the city of Marbella, as this penthouse in Reserva de Sierra Blanca, with the mountains behind. Offering an impressive location with a unique ecosystem and low traffic, the quality of the air is exceptional.

The luxury villas of Cascada de Camojan are adjacent to the neighbourhood of Sierra Blanca. They usually have large plots surrounded by vegetation, a condition that reflects this property very well, with 4 bedrooms and beautiful sea views.

To the north of the Puente Romano Hotel, we find Las Lomas de Marbella Club. Its properties are bordered by lush landscapes and green areas, being just steps from an impressive promenade. An example of this is this amazing project of four modern villas where the quality of their constructions, combined with their fantastic location, make this district one of the most sought-after on the Costa del Sol.

Altos de Puente Romano is a private complex with direct access to the main road. Here are mostly villas with luxury finishes and incredible uninterrupted views.

Bordering the southern limit of Sierra Blanca, Rocio de Nagüeles was founded in the ’70s. It mixes different designs of apartments, townhouses and exquisite villas.

In this wing also sits the Marbella Mosque or King Abdul Aziz Mosque. It was designed by the Spanish architect Juan Mora Urbano in 1981. Surprisingly difficult to find despite its size, it is one of the largest houses in Spain.

Beachside Golden Mile

On the other side and bathed by the sea, we find fabulous homes in areas such as Puente Romano, Casablanca or La Carolina. This latest community owns huge Andalusian-style villas.

Puente Romano is an iconic resort on the Costa del Sol on the beachfront. It consists of the Puente Romano hotel and various urbanizations where Marina de Puente Romano stands out for its exotic private gardens (Andalusian, Persian and Japanese Gardens). Here we find luxurious apartments designed by the architect Melvin Villaroel. Jardín Andaluz nestles north of the tennis club. And directly in front of the sea, Persian Garden and Japanese Garden, with wonderful ponds and waterfalls. This selection reflects very well the essence of the Puente Romano houses.

Casablanca is made up of a set of villas close to beach clubs, restaurants and all the amenities, maintaining maximum tranquillity and privacy.

In conclusion, acclaimed worldwide for its essence and distinction, the Golden Mile is home to the most majestic and exclusive properties in Marbella. Thanks to its unbeatable climate, its golden beaches and its select environment just a few minutes from the centre of Marbella and Puerto Banús, it is an ideal enclave to acquire a home on the Costa del Sol. Prestigious international schools, golf courses and well-known restaurants host the area, with Malaga International Airport just a 40-minute drive away.
